Ibn Marzuq was a preacher and statesman. Born in Tremecen in 1310/1311 and died in Cairo in 1379.

In 1353 Ibn Marzuq went to Granada as a master in the religious seminary of Yusuf I, since that was a school where students of the Nasrid kingdom studied at the feet of masters from the Maghreb. The influence of this man of letters was felt by disciples as significant as Ibn al- Khatib or Ibn Zamrak.
